Finest Hideaway Hotel Seefischer at Lake Millstatt: “Nothing” as a Visionary Concept for Carinthian Tourism. Artists and Philosophers Provided the Inspiration.
Finally, a holiday where you can truly do “nothing”! This longing takes on a completely new meaning at the “Finest Hideaway” Hotel Seefischer on Lake Millstatt in Carinthia: the 4-star superior hotel is now the world’s first hotel to offer its guests “nothing.” “In a world where almost everything is available to so many people at any time, nothing becomes a seductive luxury. At Seefischer, guests will find a variety of ways to experience ‘nothing’ as the most precious gift,” say hosts Elisabeth and Michael Berndl. Guests can experience “nothing” in different ways: from an unplugged hike to a hidden stone house deep in the forest, a solitary rowing boat trip through the mist of dawn on Lake Millstatt, or moonlit hikes to the power spots of Mount Mirnock, to breath-work sessions, cold-water bathing in natural springs, more than a hundred books on the theme of “nothing” available throughout the hotel, or simply gazing at the empty water from the lake sauna built on stilts directly on the shore of Lake Millstatt.
To develop these new opportunities for discovering “nothing” at Seefischer, hosts Elisabeth and Michael Berndl have worked with artists and philosophers. One such inspiration was Jean-Paul Sartre, who wrote in his work “Being and Nothingness”: “Negating the world for a moment reveals our ability to choose, to make decisions, and thus to be free.” Artists who have long participated in the Seefischer “Artist in Residence” program, freely expressing their art by Lake Millstatt, often speak of a magical emptiness—a “nothingness” that surrounds the area, making those who are open to it particularly receptive to new ideas and creativity. “Seefischer is located at the beginning of Lake Millstatt, where the inflow occurs, and from here, everything begins and continuously flows down the lake. The energy flowing through this place creates a unique flow in people. By focusing on nothing, we aim to give our guests the opportunity to experience just that,” explain Elisabeth and Michael Berndl.
The “nothing” experience at Finest Hideaway Seefischer is available throughout the year. Particularly in autumn, winter, and spring, the lake takes on a mystical character—everything becomes even quieter, and experiencing the region turns into an intense awareness of space and time. Even in the height of summer, when the surroundings are bustling, Seefischer remains a place of tranquility. “At the most beautiful time, in the most beautiful place” has been the motto of this renowned hideaway hotel for many years.
