Guests can experience “nothing” in different ways: from an unplugged hike to a hidden stone house deep in the forest, a solitary rowing boat trip through the mist of dawn on Lake Millstatt, or moonlit hikes to the power spots of Mount Mirnock, to breath-work sessions, cold-water bathing in natural springs, more than a hundred books on the theme of “nothing” available throughout the hotel, or simply gazing at the empty water from the lake sauna built on stilts directly on the shore of Lake Millstatt.

To develop these new opportunities for discovering “nothing” at Seefischer, hosts Elisabeth and Michael Berndl have worked with artists and philosophers. One such inspiration was Jean-Paul Sartre, who wrote in his work “Being and Nothingness”: “Negating the world for a moment reveals our ability to choose, to make decisions, and thus to be free.” Artists who have long participated in the Seefischer “Artist in Residence” program, freely expressing their art by Lake Millstatt, often speak of a magical emptiness—a “nothingness” that surrounds the area, making those who are open to it particularly receptive to new ideas and creativity. “Seefischer is located at the beginning of Lake Millstatt, where the inflow occurs, and from here, everything begins and continuously flows down the lake. The energy flowing through this place creates a unique flow in people. By focusing on nothing, we aim to give our guests the opportunity to experience just that,” explain Elisabeth and Michael Berndl.
