What inspired you to start your own brand?
Passion, independence and creativity. To create, design, shape something to my taste and present it in my own way is great. I am free in what I do and love.
How would you describe the style of your brand?
My fashion brand is characterized by a flowing, stylish and classically chic style that has an elegant touch at the same time. I try to capture the charm of times gone by, whether through subtle details or elaborate highlights that make the look truly eye-catching. My designs have a touch of chichi to help women express their beauty and femininity in a subtle and sophisticated way.
Who is your target market and how did you identify them?
A group of women interested in a refined and sophisticated style. They have some interest in fashion and design and value quality, craftsmanship and materials. Their age and lifestyle may vary, but they may have some financial stability and a desire to express a certain sophistication and elegance in their lives.
What sets your brand apart from other fashion brands in the market?
One pair of pants combined with 3 different looks. With feathers, beads or without chichi. The pants can be styled in different ways and can express different styles and mood. Advantages here are that with minimal effort can create several outfits that can be selected according to the occasion and mood. It also saves space when traveling.
What is your creative process when designing a new collection?
I would say it’s like music here. It takes patience to allow processes to develop. Moods are recorded, you can see what has emerged. A dialogue with the work of art begins. Creative. Spontaneous. Intuitive. A trying out.
How do you select the materials and fabrics for your designs?
What is important to me? I value a classy look, high quality and easy handling. It should be durable to ensure that the garments have a long life. Likewise, the fabric should be comfortable to wear. I prefer fabrics that come from sustainable sources and are made in an environmentally friendly way. This includes the use of recycled materials or that viscose is made to be produced sustainably by using organic raw materials and reducing energy and water consumption.
How do you ensure the quality of your products?
To ensure that the quality of my products is high, I carry out various measures. I have the fabrics and materials I use tested and inspected regularly. This includes checking for color fastness and durability to ensure that the colors remain bright even after many washes and that the products have a long life. I work closely with my producer and supply chain. I make sure that the origin of the materials is traceable and transparent.
What challenges have you faced ion starting your own brand and how have you overcome
them?
Probably my first big challenge started with traveling alone to the biggest fabric fair in Milan to finally find my perfect fabric. From registering my business to buying my domain to applying for my tax number and numerous emails and phone calls, I had to fight my way through a mountain of correspondence. It came to the change of my partner, because I was not satisfied with my previous agency at all. But I believe that everything goes according to the motto: When one door closes, another one opens. And that’s how it was in the end.
What are your goals for the future of your brand?
I stroll through the alleys in Paris and New York and see women wearing my pants.
How do you plan to grow and expand your brand in the coming years?
Since I love to travel and am on the road a lot, I wear my fashion in the different countries and leave my mark. I would also present my collection in different stores or boutiques. It would be great if I could show my fashion at a pop-up event.
About Natascha Maren Dostal
“Simply do it”. I believe that I have made this my motto. My mother, who is both an artist and a great role model, once said: “You need enthusiasm, patience, nice people, courage. Courage is always rewarded. To engage in the experiment is essential, and the reward is the artistic friction with oneself and the resulting work.” (Quote from Mom)
“On dreaming and having the courage to leave a mark”
The courage to change and to take risks is ultimately the art. That’s exactly what I’m doing by founding my own label. Creating, designing, shaping something according to my taste and presenting it in my own way is great. What matters is the fun and freedom that come with it. And that is my passion, my personal pleasure! At the beginning of an artistic work, the end is never foreseeable. It’s like embarking on a story. You experience uncertainty, amazement, or enthusiasm. I combine two passions – an artistic passion with manual skills. United and underscored with music – composing and creating. Creative. Spontaneous. Intuitive. An experiment. There are melodies in my head, chords, sounds, preferred keys that stick, that I record and change so that a composition is created, ultimately creating a narrative that the listener can embrace. When music meets fashion and envelops my artwork, the magic is doubled.
The name “Chichi Mareen”
The name “Chichi Mareen” has a beautiful sound combination and can evoke different associations. “Chichi” can be interpreted as a colloquial expression for vanity or exaggerated refinement, but it can also have a positive connotation of stylish elegance and sophistication. In combination with my second maiden name “Mareen“, it gives the brand a personal touch and creates a connection to me as a designer. – flowing stylish classic – floating – playful – with a touch of chichi, of course.
