H&M Studio’s Pre-Spring capsule arrives with a new outlook on transitional dressing

When the season starts shifting to longer, lighter days, the sharp tailoring and voluminous shapes in H&M Studio’s Pre-Spring capsule provide a thoughtful foundation for a transitional wardrobe. Think curated essentials with strong shoulders, flowing fabrics and sleek lines. The capsule will be available online at hm.com from 30th January.
The colour palette is mainly black and midnight blue with one yellow and purple crocus print – the first flower of Spring, breaking through the snow. Featuring outerwear, dresses, tops and bottoms, the capsule was inspired by the chrysalis state of a butterfly, getting ready to emerge onto the scene.
Key pieces are strong yet easygoing. The long, tailored blazer-style coat is collarless and double-breasted for a sculptural look. A leather take on the trench stops at the hips and has an oversized silhouette. For something more lightweight, there’s a voluminous trench in a windbreaker-type fabric with a high collar. The first blooms show up in a long, fluid dress with billowing sleeves, a handkerchief hem and keyhole neckline. Coated denim, printed leggings and a leather wraparound miniskirt add edge and layering possibilities when styling.
“In between winter and spring, we long for the sun on our skin but still need outerwear. Thinking about that time before we can fully bloom led us to this play of tailoring and floaty fabrics. And by injecting a bit of toughness with leather and denim, the capsule feels powerful and confident – ready for anything,”
