Dior’s Tribute to the Rich Textile Traditions of India
The Dior Fall 2023 collection is a celebration of the beautiful and diverse culture of India. Through the collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri aims to showcase the exceptional skills of the local artisans and pay homage to the rich textile traditions of the country. The collection features an exquisite range of outfits that embody the vocabulary of traditional Indian dress, presented in shimmering shades of silk and minimalist lines of black and white. The bold prints are transformed into precious embroidery, adorning dresses, tops, and the iconic Dior Book Tote bag.
The beautiful city of Udaipur
The collection is staged in the heart of the beautiful city of Udaipur, known as the jewel of Rajasthan. The looks are showcased in a dreamlike decor, reflecting the sumptuous beauty of the local palaces and temples. The interplay of light and shadow creates a poetic and powerful visual experience, evoking the elements of the Indian landscape and imagery.
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fascination with India and its exceptional techniques is evident in the collection. She collaborated with Karishma Swali, who directs the Chanakya ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft, in Mumbai. This partnership provided a place of exchange, study, and emancipation for many women, highlighting the visionary spirit of the founding-couturier.
