Berlin Fashion Week: Finnegan Godenschweger

From catwalks to conferences, Berlin Fashion Week presents an array of innovative events and exhibitions, showcasing the future of the fashion industry.

Berlin is preparing to showcase the best of contemporary fashion and cultural diversity as the city gears up for the Berlin Fashion Week. Berlin Fashion Week taking place from July 10 to July 13, 2023. We expect the event to create extraordinary momentum for Berlin. It will reaffirm the city’s reputation as a hub of creativity, business, and dialogue.

The fashion industry in Berlin has firmly established itself as a major economic driver and job creator. The city’s unique subcultures have a global influence that extends to all other industries. The Berlin Fashion Week seeks to celebrate this creative ecosystem and its values of creativity, freedom, and inclusion.

Subcultural movements and trends

Berlin is a metropolis known for leading subcultural movements. It excels in art and design. It’s recognized for a unique global club and music scene. The Fashion Week captures these fast-paced changes. It highlights key themes like sustainability. It also prioritizes inclusion and innovation. Lastly, it fosters discussions around these topics.

Promoting talent is also high on the agenda, with the Fashion Council Germany conducting the Berlin Contemporary concept competition. From a pool of 77 applications, an expert jury selected 18 concepts from Berlin and national designers. Among these selected talents are established labels ODEEH, Esther Perbandt, RIANNA + NINA, and William Fan, as well as rising designers such as Acceptance Letter Studio, Fassbender, and Haderlump Atelier Berlin.

Following the slogan “Old meets New,” the event plans to contrast modern fashion with historic sites. Next, at the Berlin Salon located in Kronprinzenpalais, a collection from 44 design and fashion talents will be displayed. Then, in a joint effort with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Showcase platform newEST will exhibit fashion shows. These shows will feature hand-picked winners of the Berlin Contemporary competition.

New concept for the Fashion Week

The designers Rebekka Ruetz, Danny Reinke, Marcel Ostertag, and Kilian Kerner joined forces to create a new concept for the Fashion Week. They will present their latest collections under the shared roof W.E4.FASHION DAY at the Verti Music Hall. Simultaneously, the city-wide initiative Studio2Retail will spread the unique Fashion Week atmosphere through fashion shows, events, and pop-ups around Berlin.

Sustainability is a key focus for the event. The fair BeyondFashionBerlin will present exhibiting labels sorted into five categories, shows their commitment to sustainable practices.

Returning to Station Berlin, the Premium Group will present their trend and event platform. Their flagship formats PREMIUM and SEEK aim to be louder, more provocative, and more personal. Ukrainian labels will also have their own presentation space, further highlighting the international scope of the event.

The Berlin Fashion Week is shaping up to be a major celebration of creativity, diversity, and forward-thinking fashion design. The city is gearing up to host designers, press, buyers, and creatives. This action positions Berlin as a global window, showcasing the creative heart of the fashion world.
