Alpine Golf Highlight Moves to Tyrol in 2026

The DP World Tour – the world’s largest and most prestigious professional golf series alongside the PGA Tour – continues its success story in Austria. Following a successful edition at Gut Altentann, the tournament will move to Kitzbühel in 2026, marking a bold step for the sport of golf and year-round tourism in Tyrol.
“As the leading global tour alongside the PGA Tour, we are thrilled to bring this international sporting event to Austria in cooperation with SalzburgerLand,” says Karin Seiler, Managing Director of Tirol Werbung. “With Kitzbühel, we have a strong partner offering an excellent golf infrastructure. Hosting the event in early summer strengthens tourism during shoulder seasons and supports our long-term goal of year-round tourism. At the same time, we’ll be showcasing our stunning alpine landscapes to a global audience over many broadcast hours.”
Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser, Managing Director of Kitzbühel Tourism, adds:
“We’re very excited that the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith golf course will host the next Austrian Alpine Open, becoming part of the DP World Tour. With four golf courses in the region, Kitzbühel is one of the leading golf destinations in the Alps. Golf plays a strategic role in our summer positioning, and we’ve launched a targeted quality campaign through investments in areas like golf and biking. This partnership is also a strong symbol of unity between Salzburg and Tyrol.”
Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of Golf Enterprises and organizer of the Austrian Alpine Open, highlights the regional impact of the event:
“Bringing the DP World Tour to Kitzbühel means welcoming world-class golf and positioning the region as a global golf destination with long-term potential. The combination of elite sport, breathtaking natural scenery, and outstanding infrastructure makes the Austrian Alpine Open a true calendar highlight – both for professionals and spectators.”
Dr. Christian Harisch, Chairman of Kitzbühel Tourism, emphasizes:
“Winning the Austrian Alpine Open for Kitzbühel – the golfing capital of the Alps – is more than just a sporting achievement. It’s a powerful statement for the future of Kitzbühel as a premium year-round destination. With events like this, we demonstrate what modern alpine tourism can look like: international, sustainable, and driven by a deep passion for sport and nature.”
Leo Bauernberger, Managing Director of SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH and one of the key figures behind the DP World Tour’s return to Austria, adds:
“This collaboration with Tyrol sends a strong signal for the alpine sport and tourism region. Together, we’re boosting the visibility of our regions as premium golf destinations on the international stage. The partnership brings world-class sport to our doorstep while strengthening economic value and raising the profile of our shoulder seasons.”
Austria’s rising golf star Maximilian Steinlechner recorded his best DP World Tour result at this year’s Austrian Alpine Open. The Tyrolean is especially excited to tee off at the highest level in his home region next year:
“It’s definitely going to be a highlight. I’m incredibly proud to be part of it – hopefully as a full DP World Tour member in 2026,” says the 25-year-old, who currently plays on the Hotelplanner Tour (Europe’s second-tier circuit) but is well on track to secure his full tour card for the coming season.
The relocation of the tournament from SalzburgerLand to Kitzbühel marks a milestone for professional golf in Austria – and further solidifies the Alpine region as a thriving, year-round travel destination. Golf fans can look forward to world-class competition in a breathtaking mountain setting – a truly international sports and tourism spectacle.
