1LIVE Krone: Ski Aggu and Otto
Great moments of German music culture tonight in Bielefeld: The 24th 1LIVE Krone gathered the national music stars in the historic Lokschuppen. During the show, in eight categories, it was revealed which favorite stars and songs of the sector received the coveted audience award. For the categories ‘Best Entertainment’ and ‘Special Award,’ the 1LIVE editorial team had already selected the winners in advance.
This year, the award ceremony surprised with a fresh show concept. In a club-like atmosphere, over 1200 guests experienced the show mostly standing and dancing in the hall, while a million-strong audience watched live on TV, online, and radio. The host of the evening was 1LIVE face Donya Farahani, who opened the show with a dance performance and confidently guided through the 90-minute event. Well-known presenters such as Felix Lobrecht and Jeanine Michaelsen handed out the awards.
These acts took home the 1LIVE Krone
Ski Aggu is the newcomer of the year and cleaned up three times: After opening the 1LIVE Krone with a spectacular performance, Ski Aggu, Joost, and Otto received the 1LIVE Krone for ‘Best Song’ for ‘Friesenjung.’ ‘Different,’ the second track from the opening medley by 01099 and Ski Aggu, was chosen by listeners as ‘Best Hip-Hop/R&B Song.’ In addition, Ski Aggu won in the category ‘Best Newcomer Act.’ The very first Krone winner Kim Frank from Echt presented him with the award. Ski Aggu used his laudation to encourage newcomers: ‘To all the kids: I made it, so you can too. Next year, I’ll finish my astronaut training and go to space,’ said the Berliner.
After Nina Chuba already won two crowns last year as ‘Best Newcomer Act’ and in the category ‘Best Hip-Hop/R&B Song,’ she receives the 1LIVE Krone this year as ‘Best Artist.’ With sold-out concerts and a packed festival summer, the 25-year-old looks back on an eventful year in which she also thrilled her fans with new music like ‘Mangos with Chili.’
CRO collects crown number five and six this year. After the release of his EP ‘Spacejam’ and his successful ’11:11′ Open Air Tour, he was honored as ‘Best Artist.’ Together with Casper, he also secured the award in the category ‘Best Alternative Song’ with the song ‘Sommer.’ For Casper, the award in his hometown Bielefeld was very special: ‘I used to work at the bar in the Lokschuppen. Today I am standing here. For that, I am very grateful.’
Great joy also for Kraftklub: As one of the most successful German bands of the last decade, they can look forward to the award as ‘Best Live Act.’ Just last year, the band returned with their fourth album ‘Kargo’ and secured the 1LIVE Krone for ‘Best Alternative Song’ with ‘Ein Song reicht.’
With his techno mix of ‘Vois sur ton chemin,’ Bennett won the 1LIVE Krone in the category ‘Best Dance Song.’ The track made it into the top 10 of the German single charts and was played by DJ giants like Dimitri Vegas at festivals all over the world. The mix of choral singing and driving beats took the dance floors by storm and was introduced to the Krone audience during the show as a music clip.
With great applause and touching words, Jan Delay accepted the 1LIVE Krone Special Award. With his artistic achievements over the past 25 years, the Hamburg singer has become an icon of hip-hop and made a significant contribution to 50 years of hip-hop in Germany. In his acceptance speech, Jan Delay used the opportunity to reflect on the milestones of the genre. For him, rap is community, zeitgeist, and innovation.
Whether as successful podcasters of ‘Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood,’ as musicians in their band Tokio Hotel, or as jury members of ‘The Voice Of Germany’ – the Kaulitz brothers deliver entertainment at the highest level. For their outstanding achievements, the twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz received the crown in the category ‘Best Entertainment.’
Live performances and special moments
Unique live performances rounded off the evening: In addition to the medley by Ski Aggu, 01099, Joost, and Otto Waalkes, the indie rock band Giant Rooks thrilled with their feel-good hit ‘Somebody Like You,’ while Paula Hartmann performed ‘black SUVs’ live with them. The crowning conclusion of the show was the performance of the US band Gossip. With a medley of their classic ‘Heavy Cross’ and the brand-new single ‘Crazy Again,’ the trio brought the hall to its feet.
